Here are our spelling words this week! We went over the words and definitions this morning. We talked about what the word roots vis/vid, aud and phon mean. As I was going over the spelling from last week, I noticed that many of the students who did not complete the weekly spelling packet were also the ones who did not do great on the test. Ask you student if they completed their spelling for the day! If they did not it should be completed at home.

We started our Greek and Latin word study. This week the theme is just add water! The Latin word roots are Mar/mer and aqua/aqu, and the Greek root is hydr. We are mostly completing this in class. If it isn't complete in class it is homework. Here is the list for this week:
1. marina 2. aquarium 3. hydrant 4. aquatic 5. marine 6. aqueduct 7. hydroelectric 8. maritime 9. aquifer 10. dehydrate Today we did a great activity where we explored different ways that could be used to prevent erosion on a beach. The groups were given a set of materials that included fabric, sticks, clay, and a few other items that could be used to stop erosion caused by waves on their beach. Some great devices were made and some were successful others not so much but we all were able to learn from the successes and failures.
What a great day! We had a ton of fun exploring ways that erosion, weathering, and deposition have changed the world that we live in. We did this by making sandcastles, photographing examples of weathering and erosion, reading, writing and drawing, and got a bigger picture view of the changes in the environment by canoeing around the reservoir. Ask your kids what they learned!
